Curling Canada, the Ontario Curling Council, CurlON, NOCA, and many volunteers have been working very hard the past few years to collect and develop best practices related to Youth Curling Programs. This is the year that these exciting new programs are officially launching. We’ll be rolling out these programs at Ontario Kids Curl – Youth Curling Summits which will be hosted across the province in the coming weeks.
Who should attend the summit? Youth Curling Coaches, Youth Program Leaders, Parents, Board Members and Young people (16-25) interested in getting involved in the delivery of youth programs from your club and area clubs – to learn about the new and exciting Curling Canada and Ontario Curling Council developed programs for youth curlers.
At the Ontario Kids Curl – Youth Curling Summits (2.5-3 hours long) – participants can expect to learn about:
All REGISTERED Ontario Kids Curl – Youth Curling Summit participants can expect to receive printed Youth Curling Programs, a FREE Ontario Kids Curl Shirt and light refreshments.
Along with the above new Youth Programming we are growing the number of youth Trainers & Coaches – via an initiative called ‘Leaders in Training’. Our Leaders in Training program will be an online training initiative. The program does target Leaders in Training who are between 16-25 years old – but the program will be open to anyone that wants to commit time and energy! The LIT initiative does not link to the NCCP Coaching architecture yet but it will be designed to educate Youth and Adult volunteers so that they will be valuable additions to your Youth Curling Programs. This program is expected to be finalized by Mid-Late November.
The Ontario Curling Council has recruited several Youth Program Leaders to help us share these programs with you at the Regional Youth Curling Summits – Greg Elliott, Jennifer Cuddie, Sabena Islam, Larry Rathje and Amanda Gates will be aiding our OCC staff.
Please watch for the emails about the Summits and be sure to share with Youth Curling Coaches/Program leaders at your club.
Ontario Kids Curl – Youth Curling Summits have been made possible through a two year Ontario Sport Communities Recreation Fund grant from the Ministry of Tourism Culture and Sport. This grant has been executed in partnership with Curling Canada.
